The Star China Co. introduced Paragon China in 1903. In the latter few years of the nineteenth century, this company began manufacturing at the St Gregory's Works, Gregory Street, Longton, then moved to the Atlas Works, Sutherland Road, Longton, in March 1903. Because of its popularity, Paragon China chose to alter its name in 1919, and in 1920, it became The Paragon China Company. When the partnership was dissolved and Herbert Aynsley resigned in September 1927, Hugh Irving, who had been in active control of the business for many years, became sole proprietor. The company was renamed Paragon China Limited in 1930. Hugh Irving and his sons, Leslie and Guy, who joined the company in 1928 and 1933, respectively, remained with it until it was purchased in 1960 by Thomas C. Wild & Sons Ltd, a Royal Albert bone china producer. Wild and its subsidiaries, including Paragon, merged with the Lawley Group Ltd in July 1964, and the company was renamed Allied English Potteries Ltd later that year. In 1972, Paragon was acquired by Royal Doulton, which continued to produce china under that brand until 1991. By 1989, the name and patterns had been absorbed by Royal Albert, and the Paragon brand had been phased out by 1992. Some later Paragon patterns from this period continued in production under Royal Albert and were still available until the Royal Albert name was discontinued by Doulton.
