Fran Kernich is a potter from South Australia who started working with clay in the early 1990s. She majored in ceramics at Magill CAE, is a member of Studio Potters SA, and specialises in raku and crystalline glazes. The Helpmann Academy awarded her a grant in 2005 to conduct a raku master class at O'Halloran Hill. An inscribed 'Fran Kernich' is her mark. Because it is not glazed, this piece of pottery is porous. It's heated in smouldering sawdust for two days. The fire process also includes the use of seaweed and salt. The effects on the pot are random. There are no two pieces alike. Please do not use water or anything abrasive or chemical to clean the pot. A gentle wipe with a soft dry towel is all that is required. Spectacular piece of Australian Pottery!
