In 1873 Alfred Meakin Ltd was founded by Alfred Meakin and was based at Tunstall's Royal Albert, Victoria, and Highgate Potteries. Alfred was the brother of James and George Meakin, who owned J. and G. Meakin, a significant pottery in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent. Incorporated as a Limited Company in 1896. Alfred Meakin died in 1904, and his son, Alfred John, replaced him four years later. Alfred John's uncle, Robert Johnson, purchased the company for his son Stuart Johnson in c.1909, and it remained in the Johnson family until 1976. 1914 A. S. Johnson, H. Johnson, and F. C. Johnson were the directors. Company is Ironstone China and White Semi-Porcelain dinner, tea, and toilet-ware manufacturers for all markets. Company merged with Myott, Son and Co. in 1976. Myott-Meakin was born. Later, he joined the Churchill Group. This particular Collectible Scalloped Edge Sandwich Plate comes in Excellent Condition.
