Longton, Stoke-on-Trent-based pottery maker John Beswick Ltd, originally J. W. Beswick, was founded in 1894 by James Wright Beswick and his sons John and Gilbert. The company was sold to Doulton & Co. Ltd. in 1969. In 2002, the plant shuttered, and the John Beswick brand was sold in 2004. The pottery was well renowned for making high-quality porcelain figurines of farm animals and Beatrix Potter characters, which have since become highly collectable. The name Beswick is pronounced as Bes-wick. Employees from the original Beswick factory provided this information. Lovely Vintage Collectible Beswick Ware Cabbage Leaf Gravy Jug/Boat & Plate/Saucer from C.1930s comes in Great Condition with Original Makers Decal.
