The general word for these devices is epidiascope. Opa-scopes are used to project both opaque and transparent material onto a screen within a darkened environment. Usually, those presenting educational or training programmes, entertaining or expert presentations would present this visual information to small groups. The blackboard, slide projectors, and overhead projectors were some of the other technologies available at the time that provided this type of facility. The education department was one of the biggest adopters of this kind of technology, using it to deliver training and instructional materials to smaller groups. During the middle of the 1960s and the late 1970s, when there was a trend to use various media as teaching tools in state and federal educational institutions, opa-scopes were widely used.
