By creating a round bobbin in 1921, a clever inventor by the name of Yosako Ose revolutionised the way sewing machines function. Because of how much the cool circular bobbin resembled a snake eye, people soon started calling these sewing machines "Janome," which is Japanese for "eye of the snake"! In 1954, this was adopted as the company's legal name. Sadly, the Pine/Janome company toiled through two world wars before finally establishing its footing. The company grew to the point where it could construct a true manufacturing facility in 1936. The Japanese sewing machine sector had a tremendous boom following the end of World War II. Because of Janome's stellar reputation by the 1970s and 1980s, the company sold the majority of its machines under its own brand name across the globe. The business carried on innovating inventive sewing machines, introducing the first programmable sewing machine in 1979. Currently, Janome Sewing Machine Co., Ltd. has production facilities spread across several continents.
