Howard Koppenhagen founded the Dartmouth Pottery in 1948 (manufacturing began in 1949) on a scenic site in Warfleet, on the west bank of the River Dart. They used to make various art goods and unique objects on commision from other potteries who couldn't satisfy their orders. Then, for the returning tourist market, they created themed tableware, such as tea plates, cups and saucers, and jugs, at a period when other potteries were prohibited in their use of colours for decoration (save for export items) due to wartime regulations. As a result, much of the pottery sold in Britain during this time was solely ornamented in brown, amber, white, or was produced from a blue-dyed clay. Dartmouth Pottery, on the other hand, appeared to be in a better position and had fewer problems with colour, allowing them to perform color-decorated work for other potteries at the time. This particular item comes with Beautiful Pineapple Design and Gilt Rim. Collectible is in Great Condition and has Original Maker’s Mark.
